In the Netherlands alone, over 11 billion kilos of furniture is discarded every year by both individuals and businesses. Only 10% is recycled — the rest ends up in landfill or, most often, incinerated because of the complexity of the materials and design, emitting over 15 million tonnes of carbon every year. From the business sector alone, more than 230,000 kilos are incinerated every single day — over 5 football fields of discarded furniture, daily. The hotel industry is one of the biggest contributors of large-scale furniture, so that is our starting point; as we grow, we intend to expand our impact to other high-volume sectors.
